Pipeline and Utility Surveys
Occupational health of construction workers engaged in the installation of all forms of underground utilities can be affected by the presence of soil contaminants. These contaminants can also affect the water quality through the creation of objectionable taste or colour, and in extreme cases, can lead to pipe failure.
The Drinking Water Regulations and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations lay down that workers and end users should not be exposed to unnecessary risk. As part of Severn Trent Services' sampling and monitoring services we can provide a complete solution for the assessment of pipes used for distributing water, providing a convenient and effective way for the owners of such facilities to meet their statutory obligations.
Our Field Services division has considerable experience in undertaking the necessary assessments, either in partnership with clients during the initial desk study and site investigation, or based on analytical data presented at the design and construction stage. In addition, advice is available to developers, regulatory bodies and distributing companies on appropriate materials for the construction of pipelines, and on best practice for the protection of installations.
